The Avengers is funny

And not always intentionally. At the outset, I'd like to say that apart from the Hulk and the Iron Man, I didn't know much about the rest of the heroes. I had vaguely heard about Captain America and Thor but never really watched their individual movies. I hadn't even seen the trailer. Having seen the buzz created on Twitter, I walked into the theatre with a friend. As far as the movie is concerned, it's good entertainment with tight scenes, splendid visual effects and smart, funny dialogues. But when we got out of the theatre, it struck our minds that Captain America was probably the worst superhero of all time.

Let us look at some examples from the film. (SPOILER ALERT)

There's a scene where Loki has been captured and is being taken back to S.H.I.E.L.D headquarters in a plane when Thor makes a thunderous entrance (pun intended). He takes Loki and flies right out of the plane. Tony Stark jumps out of the plane in pursuit. Now, Captain America can't fly. So he jumps out with a parachute. How is that going to help? He's just going to a fleeting spectator to the fight. One moment he's at the same altitude and eye to eye with the duo and the next moment, he finds himself looking up and examining the soles of their feet, having dropped several feet in altitude. Someone needs to explain to him that the concept of flying involves horizontal motion also. And not following the trajectory of a bird dropping.

In another scene, after Hawkeye blows up an engine of the S.H.I.E.L.D plane, Tony Stark is fixing the problem by moving the blades himself. What does Captain America do? He has to pull a lever. How depressing is that? You spend decades frozen in a block of ice and finally come back to life to pull one lame lever. Even that he couldn't do without almost killing Stark. And it's not his fault alone. The guys who brought him back didn't give him a fair chance. Everyone else has laser guns, missiles and superpowers. This guy is given just a shield. He's a national hero who's looking to adjust in the modern world. Let him be on an equal footing. At least provide a laser gun in his suit for God's sake.

Even Black Widow and Hawkeye know he sucks. When the aliens attack Manhattan, Stark is fighting the huge flying fish monster thing. Hulk is lying naked somewhere. Thor is fighting some other aliens. On the ground are Black Widow, Hawkeye and Captain America. A group of aliens attack them and before Captain can do anything, Widow says, "We've got this one." She knows this guy can't save his own life, leave alone others. As my friend said, all he can do is use his shield as a table tennis racket to deflect bullets.

During another attack, someone asks, "What do we do?" Captain replies,"We work as a team." Any other superhero with a certain level of self-esteem would have said, "Leave it to me" or "I'll take care of it". Not Captain. It seems there's a senior citizen quota on the Avengers Mission and Captain America is just there to fill in the perfunctory slot. Even if there was, at least take Wolverine.

Captain America is the Sourav Ganguly of the Avengers. The younger lot are in awe of him. None of them remember or know why. He reminds many of the good old days. He's back from the dead, in the midst of all the action and in spite of being the weakest link, he insists on being in command.

PS: Props to the writers and director for making the Hulk funny. But Captain America is funny.

Are Bhatts’ annoyed with Sunny Leon?

Mahesh Bhatt and daughter Pooja Bhatt, the makers of ‘Jism 2’, an erotic Adult thriller, might have completed the shooting of their latest film, seem upset with someone in the unit.
The official Twitter handle of the film tweeted, “It`s tragic when actors do not put their heart into a shot. One can deal with mediocrity but not someone who does not even attempt a shot(sic).”
The tweet clearly indicaates that the Bhatts’ are talking about someone who hasn’t lived up to their expectations as an actor.
The film has Arunoday Singh and Randeep Hooda, both critically acclaimed actors along with Indo-Canadian adult film actress Sunny Leone, who is making her debut in the film.
So that implies that the tweet was aimed at Sunny Leone.

Gangs of Wasseypur writer faces threat to life

At the eve of every Bollywood new release, the film invariable faces problems regarding copyright, with many people laying claim to script, songs or such.
Anurag Kashyap’s Gangs of Wasseypur real life drama is facing a problem of another kind. The writer Syed Zeeshan Qadri, who has spent his entire life in Wasseypur, has now been getting threat calls in case he should ever return to Wasseypur.
Gangs of Wasseypur is set against the backdrop of Wasseypur, a small town near Dhanbad in Jharkhand, and revolves round the coal mafia in the region. Apparently, Qadri’s true-to-life story telling seems to have threatened some of the families involved. They are now out for revenge. The film is already in trouble with the residents of Wasseypur protesting the title as it could destroy their reputation.
A source close to Qadri said, “Syed is currently in Mumbai, though a domicile of Wasseypur. Of late, he has been getting threat calls questioning his revealing so much about the coal mafia. The mafia has threatened thd writer with his life in case he return to his hometown. There are many reallife characters in the film although Anurag maintains it’s a work of fiction.
Qadri is very scared right now. He has informed Anurag, who has asked him to lie low till the film’s release. Qadri’s family is still in his hometown but he cannot go back. Maybe, they will have to shift to Mumbai. For now, he is being very careful while answering his phone calls.”
Syed has been barred from any communication with the media by the team of Gangs of Wasseypur.

Night of the Exes

You or me would be mighty embarrassed to cross your ex. Not so in Bollywood, where one would most probably land a plum role with the ex involving several intimate scenes.
We had a preview of a scene from the ‘Bold and the Beautiful’ where there was a grand party where several exes partied together without any embarrassment.
Shahid Kapoor, Ranbir Kapoor, Bipasha Basu, Nargis Fakhri and Priyanka Chopra partying the night away at an international event in Singapore on Saturday night.

After the grand finale of the IIFA awards finished, producer Riteish Sidhwani threw a party at the Presidential suite of the Fairmont Hotel where they were staying. While Ranbir invited Nargis to the after-party (they were a couple the shooting of their film Rockstar), Priyanka and Shahid (reportedly in a relationship more than a year ago) came together after their performance on stage at the event. Bipasha (who has been linked to both Ranbir and Shahid) came with Priyanka, her friend Mubina, Shirin and Soham Shah’s wife Bina. Rowdy Rathod director Prabhudeva and Sonakshi also dropped in for some time.
Bipasha, Priyanka and Nargis appeared to be perfectly comfortable partying with their exes Ranbir and Shahid with none of the awkwardness.

Akshay's Rowdy Rathore fails to beat Agneepath record at Box Office

Bollywood movie Rowdy Rathore, which features Akshay Kumar and Sonakshi Sinha in the leads, has had a wonderful week at the Box Office. The action thriller film has smashed collection record of Akki's previous film Housefull 2, but it has failed to beat the first week record of Hrithik Roshan's Agneepath.

Agneepath, which was released on Thursday on January 26, had raked in Rs 21.76 crores on the first day. The movie had collected a total of Rs 62.11 crores over its extended four-day weekend. But its business fell down drastically on the weekdays with the film adding another Rs 23.77 crores to its first week's total collection Rs 85.88 crores.

Whereas, Rowdy Rathore, which had its worldwide release on June 1, scored Rs 15.1 crores on the first day. The film did well on Saturday and its collection reached Rs 48.3 crores in the first weekend. But unlike Agneepath, this film continued to do well on the weekdays too. It grossed Rs 79.52 crores nett in week one. The breakup of its collection is 15.1 cr on Fri, 14.7 cr on Sat, 18.5 cr on Sun, 9.5 cr on Mon, 8.12 cr on Tue, 7.1 cr on Wed, 6.5 cr Thu.

However, Akshay Kumar's previous film Housefull 2, which was released on April 5, 2012, had collected Rs 63.63 crores in extended eight-day week. It has joined the league of 100 crore movies. In a way his latest movie Rowdy Rathore has beaten the record of Agneepath, when compared to the seven days total of Hrithik starrer.
